@icaria36@sonomu.clubIs there discussion about the @signalapp open source project, foundation, and server infrastructure having enough redundancy outside of the US in case some sort of stormtroopers crash one day in legal, digital and/or physical ways?
Serious question from someone in the EU using and contributing € to Signal but not following the project and community closely.
@icaria36 @signalapp I do not know, but so far Signal has always been very on top of their game, I would be surprised if they haven't thought about that already, and I also would be very surprised if they announce any possible plans publicly before really needing them. No need to spill the tea to those that are the reason for it. It even seems very ill-advised to me to do that.
@signalapp cannot move outside of US because its server software depends on Amazon Simple Queue Service for messaging and on Amazon DynamoDB for the database. These parts are non-free SaaS dependencies. There is no way to move #Signal server outside of AWS "cloud" without a major redesign of these core parts.

You could also use @threemaapp which is Swiss-based.
@elmerot Thank you for the recommendation. I use Delta Chat by default and this is what I pitch to my former WhatsApp contacts. I use Signal with whoever has it already and as fallback option for chat groups and audio/video calls. Threema is also a very interesting project!
