"we dont really recommend tuning your piano yourse–"

listen. nobody wanted this piano. it was given to me. no one loves it anymore. except me. whos gonna buy it? you? for what? $10? i think not. i shall be purchasing this tuning wrench and taking my leave. good DAY sir

"work from home" by fifth harmony hits different now. rip

I just want you guys to know that the multiple *years* I've had my music on Spotify and iTunes have still made me less money than the first two weeks of the same albums on Bandcamp.

Please support artists directly if you can.

Working in the spatial audio studio at the Swedish art academy this week. Feel very lucky to be able to do this.

"wicked game"

@maddox "And I think she was probably upset because I was more excited by the song. [laughing] I was like, 'Yes, you're gorgeous, baby. But listen to this song!'"

"wicked game"

@maddox "And as soon as I hung up I thought, 'Oh, my God. I know she's gonna be trouble. She's always been trouble. She's a wildcat. And here I am, I'm going to get killed, but I'm doing this.' And I wrote 'Wicked Game': 'World's on fire and no one can save me but you.' It's like you start thinking about it, and by the time she came over to the house, I had the song written.

lewd ("wicked game")

@maddox "This one I wrote really late at night and it was written in a short time, because I remember that a girl had called me and said, 'I want to come over and talk to you,' and 'talk' was a euphemism. And she said, 'I want to come over and talk to you until you're no longer able to stand up.' And I said, 'Okay, you're coming over.'

wow reading what chris isaak had to say about writing "wicked game" is something

does anyone else get really uncomfortable pressure in their ears when they sing

alzheimers

@maddox (he never was before. like music was ok but he only listened to stuff that he liked as a young adult. in britain. during the korean war)

now hes open to all genres and my singing voice is very grounding for him and makes him happy. so i will try to record some stuff for him this weekend and maybe the next time he tries to leave, the family can just start playing a video of me and hell be more cooperative? idk lol. keeping him occupied seems important

alzheimers

so gemmas grandfather took off last night on foot in the dead of ontario winter to visit his fave watch shop 🥴

gemmas mom found him thnx to a friendly neighbor and his daughter who kept him chatting on the sidewalk so that family could spot him easily from the street. everyones fucked up about it

one thing that might help is recordings of me singing and playing the guitar. hes always captivated by it because somehow alzheimers has made him way more interested in music

now that im thinking about it i might just sand the entire neck of the giannini tbh. restain the whole thing instead of trying to match the exact stain the manufacturer used

idk?

instrument restoration updates and how-tos

@maddox perpendicular to it like on most guitars. classical headstock is usually hollow, with two areas that the machine heads lay across horizontally. the wood ends up being more of a frame for the machine heads and the string ends.

grinds my gears that this guitar was just left to rot until its strings eroded the machine heads AND the headstock. you really have to have something against music to let that happen. but soon she will be fixed 👍🏻

instrument restoration updates and how-tos

@maddox ill double-check the specs for each fingerboard so that i know whether i really need to condition or not, but the steel wool should get rid of the gunk i couldnt take off with masking tape.

sanding the giannini will be awkward cause of the location of the damage to the finish. its INSIDE the headstock – classical guitar headstocks are carved differently because the strings are wound onto the machine heads parallel to the back of the guitar, not

picked up linseed oil, steel wool (the extra-fine shit) and a variety of sandpaper from home depot yay

the steel wool is for cleaning the guitar fingerboards, the oil is for conditioning the fingerboards, the sandpaper is for the fucked-up headstock* on the giannini estudo.

(*area of the neck where the strings attach to the machine heads)

the new ep from mø just dropped and it is definitively not bad

appropriation of black genres

@maddox *country, jazz, rap, rock, blues, ska, dubstep

appropriation of black genres

got a "signed, sealed, delivered"-style bassline in my head yesterday and riffed a lil bit (vocally) in the shower

been trying to figure out how nonblack artists who dominate genres like soul, r&b, hip-hop, funk, etc can honor the creators of the styles and i think i got a start. unsure if itll see the light of day but happy to finally express some of my feelings about it

jojos new album is nice and therapeutic if youre missing kehlani or mariah carey 🥰
