-- »Small Arts« Symposium

second day of our "small arts" symposium, we are now live and the talks will start in few minutes

more about this symposium:

apologies, today's program is mostly in slovene.

Within the project »Small Arts« Platform Emanat is organizing an international symposium about »Small Arts« in Ljubljana. Events will take place between 9 and 11 September 2021 at Slovenian Theatre Institute and other venues in Ljubljana. Symposium aims to highlight the quickly developing and topical yet dispersed and scarcely visible non-institutional production of hybrid stage practices...

None of my music costs any money at this point, and outside of covers and soundtracks, my original music is all #CreativeCommons.

Thanks to everyone who's ever supported me, on Patreon, here, or elsewhere. Fiscally or as a community, or individually. S'all appreciated.

Moral of the story is: you need to consider the interpretation layer of melodic content for computer-performed music.

In a theatrical performance, it often happens that the way something is said has equal or greater value to the words themselves. Prosody. The same holds true for music.

Hows, not whats.

what to do with an old audio interface that uses an 'obsolete' connection - firewire

PipeWire / JACK

@hecanjog so..

- RTKit is actually old/abandoned (!). It was developed in the context of PulseAudio to give RT. Apparently there is/was such a thing as pulse-rt...

- PipeWire started to use it at first, but eventually implemented their own native rt module that does not require anything but being in a group with the right limits.conf settings (same as JACK basically). If you have PipeWire >= 0.3.31 you can replace all the instances of libpipewire-module-rtkit with libpipewire-module-rt in your config files and you're good.

- I had no RTKit or any polkitd authorization agents because I'm just using evilwm. It seems that all this stuff gets pulled when you install a desktop environment. I had to workaround, but very happy that I can just deinstall it all in the end with the new config :)

- my HDSP is cracking/popping when directly driven by PipeWire, it has to do with the way ALSA works it seems... It will eventually be fixed, and there are some workarounds that I can try. But for now, I'm running JACK native again on the HDSP, PipeWire for the USB audio/screen, and use the PipeWire option to appear as a JACK client to bridge the two and it works great. Super stable and only a fraction of the CPU used compared to the same JACK/PulseAudio setup I had.

Hi. I'm DJ. I've just lost my job to COVID so I'm setting up a project called Minimal Click. It's an ethical experimental #smalltech research studio in Bath, UK.

I've created it to explore code, tools, products and services using sustainable and ethical business practices through the utilisation of open source tools and methodologies.

veggie, anarchic, designer, developer, tutor, always learning, makes music, bought up in the countryside, love is the way. x

Looking to share and connect with #smalltech #lowtech #craftisans #makers #creators and those that like to tinker, play, explore, learn, show, teach, and make the world a better place one day at a time.
