Can someone from the top of their mind tell me when it became common to call musicians (music producers) 'artists'?
I'm deep into an essay by Ruben Jacobs called Everyone Is An Artist and it's quite amazing. So good to read this criticism of creative industries and 'artistic capitalism'.
'it is not Adam Smith, the so-called founder of modern capitalism, but Rousseau who is the spiritual father of current consumer society'
@luka dunno when it started but PRS in the UK PRS use Artist as a type of "Music Creator" https://prsfoundation.com/funding-support/funding-music-creators/
Which may sound like it's complicating things but, as my partner who works in music tells me, depending on the genre and scenario you're in it can mean different things.
