In other news, I had two really good practice sessions today. Singing Rossini and practicing scales and arpeggios on the guitar, and taking my first timid steps in jamming along to a simple backing track.

Today: My voice felt a little sluggish at first, but I ended my (roughly) half-hour practice with some Brahms. Juicy stuff.

Just had an unexpectedly good singing practice session - even sang a really hard Rossini aria! Bravura arias always put me in a good mood.

Another good singing practice session this afternoon. I'm very pleased with the high notes, as well as with how "Quella fiamma" gets easier and easier... while still being interesting.

Today: Practicing an accompaniment for a simplified arrangement of the "Ode to Joy" on my electric guitar for a bit. Then about 20 min. singing - I feel like I caught a cold, which is annoying.
About 40 minutes of classical guitar - a lot of technical stuff and a first look at the Sarabande from Bach's Partita BWV 1007.

Only 10 minutes of vocal practice yesterday. Still managed to warm up and sing through all of my range once.

Apart from that, I took about an hour to familiarize myself with Reaper. Still totally on the fence about the idea of switching to closed source. What is nice though is the level and quality of documentation; that's something where most open-source projects could step up their game.

10 minutes of voice warm-up. About 30 minutes concert guitar practice; worked on Søren Madsen's arrangement of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" for classical guitar. It's a ridiculously hard piece; but there's something about practicing technically difficult stuff that is very soothing to my mind.

finally was able to take some time for guitar practice again. Heavy on the pentatonic scales and minor scales today. Also, trying to play along to a backing track.

Short singing practice yesterday; recapped some choir repertoire that's still rough around the edges. Didn't get around to guitar playing.

I messed around with Supercollider, trying to generate audio examples of different tunings. I guess I found out how to make something that conveys the idea.

I also took notes of some composition ideas and continued reading Stephen Pressfield's "The War of Art".

Finally, I took time for practice again! Singing choir repertoire, arpeggios and pentatonic scales on the guitar, fiddling around with DWGBowed in .

The latter doesn't seem to be the best choice to make the differences between tunings striking in triads; intervals sound nice, though.

Oh dear, my poor practice diary has been neglected!

Good singing practice session today.

I studied ChordSymbol in Supercollider today; cool, but not as helpful as I imagined, unless I figure out how to control it finely enough for smooth voicings.

Only a short practice today, prefaced with some Feldenkrais exercises.

Long guitar practice after giving a theory lesson. Boy, I still have a long way to go on my path to shred! But I'm making friends with those frets beyond the 12th as well as with the pick.

I guess I should also make more of an effort to play with backing tracks and/or to use a metronome, but I don't have the bandwidth to deal with my former nemesis today.

Making friends with the pick is no small feat - as someone with strong classical training, there's always the temptation to just resort to fingerpicking.

Muting the 6th string with my left thumb when I play strummed chords still feels counter-intuitive, but there's no way around it. At least the e-guitar neck is slim enough that I can get my tiny hand around it - even with my guitar not having the tiniest neck in the world...

Last few days: Too little time for singing. In part because wife is doing quite a lot of video teaching, so timing gets tricky. I can play my e-guitar with headphones at night, but my voice doesn't have a volume knob!

My jamming on the guitar with backing tracks feels clumsy, but it's precisely what I want to learn and also it's fun; it's also something I can do when I'm not feeling my most alert.

1 hour of singing practice today. I discovered a YT channel called "Voice Hacks" and her explanation of belting was encouraging enough that I actually tried it. I think I'll need to record myself to find out if I'm actually belting and not just singing classically with a weird tone.

I don't know if I'm ever going to try screaming, but I might some day work my way to singing with a bit of fry.

Didn't get around to singing today, bummer!

30 minutes of guitar practice. I'm surprised that I'm getting more courageous when playing arpeggios to a backing track. Still figuring out the best guitar position for reaching the higher frets (esp. on the lower strings) without twisting my wrist off.
